Friends Like Dubai Just Blow You Out of the Sky

Well, well, well… What’s a little retaliation amongst sahibis?
“Canada's top soldier and two cabinet ministers were up in the air Monday, their flight plans disrupted after the United Arab Emirates denied them landing in retaliation for a failed business deal.”
Fair is fair. It would appear that the opulent sheikhdom might have grown a little overconfident protected by the western soldiers who are risking their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. Perhaps a tender reminder might do them good.
In the mean time the Afghans have been like waaay too rough with the poor Taliban and Al Qaida captives. Perhaps on the way out of the region Canadian soldiers could make both the Talibs and the Emiratis a favour and provide free shipping services for the former to recuperate around some nice place like Dubai.
I am sure the sheikhs will find their business booming. Literally. They deserve it.

"UAE's ambassador to Ottawa, Mohammed Abdullah Al-Ghafli, had warned Sunday that the failure to clinch a deal will "undoubtedly affect" bilateral relations."

Somebody should tell Al-Ghafi that "bilateral" doesn't mean "do what we want or else...".

I blame Obama. Really. The West is now seen as toothless and senile.

Nice headline. With friends lilke these, who needs shoe-bombers?

Well, they didn't blow them up. They just refused to let them down. All very amusing. I don't think Canada's token soldiery would be missed anywhere. Except maybe Ottawa.

UAE - a tad too frisky, methinks.

Oh-oh, Dick, you have gained yourself an opponent now...

Come to Dubai - your best friend in the whole world! They will never let you down!

I don't know were you are, but here in Israel the ad at the top of the page says "Dubai Industrial city Dubai Easy to search. Easy to find.". Nice touch.

Easy to find - is it like in "easy to set the bomber's sights upon"?

The "token" cost Canada the lives of 156 sons and daughters.

Your name is fully justified, mate.

Air Canada, a tad too territorial.

Dick Stanley, go f*ck yourself.

Or just let the Iranians move in.

I wonder how long it would take them before they brake and sell Israel? not that it would get them UNSC sit...

Afghanistan?

Shira, from your link: "Several ambassadors who emerged from the vote made no mention of Ignatieff's remarks; one had never even heard of him."

Love it. Count Iggula must be smarting.

BTW, Snoopy, I notice you spell "favour" the *ahem* correct way. Are you a closet Canuck?

SnoopyTheGoon said...

That specific post was by another member of the team...

I too hear of Mr Ignatieff only when something negative happens in Canada. Like stopped up sewers or something...

Iranians will take the offer, you know, Louise.

As they should be when facing off against the state-owned and subsidised airlines from UAE. It's what they call "unfair competition".

The Conservative government won't sell out. They signed a major trade agreement with Israel on the eve of the vote.

Liberals on the other hand will prostitute themselves quite happily; as you see they are doing it even in opposition.

Incidentally, did you know that Ignatieff's great grandfater legislated the Pale in Russia and promoted the Russian pogroms?

If it were up to the "left" in Canada, not long:

Brr... places you visit, Noga... I get a skin rash just from looking at that.

I take it you've never had the "pleasure" of flying with Air Canada.

BHCh said...

I did have "the pleasure". Used to be Aeroplan superelite member but have since switched to another aliance.

Still I'd rather fly good old AC than hire the pocket airline of the polygamist terror-loving ruler of the tiny feudal theocracy named UAE.
