Ayo Kimathi and Department of Homeland Serenity

You know these folks that meet you at the airport with smiles and latex gloves, always ready to give you a full medical to ensure that your flight will be healthy and enjoyable.

It appears that some of their employees are overstressed. Obviously on account of worrying too much about our safety and security. And DHS, in their motherly (or is it fatherly?) wisdom make sure that such employees get their richly deserved rest. Such was the case of one Ayo Kimathi, briefly described in this HuffPost article by Alicia A. Caldwell.

The Homeland Security Department says an employee who runs a racist website predicting and advocating a race war has been put on paid administrative leave.

An acquisitions officer for Immigration and Customs Enforcement who deals with small businesses, Ayo Kimathi, operates the website War on the Horizon. It includes descriptions of an "unavoidable, inevitable clash with the white race." Kimathi is black.

Kimathi has been with the department since 2009. He was told Friday that he is being put on paid administrative leave.

Regarding the contents of the offensive site, the only thing Ms Caldwell found necessary to say was:

His website criticizes whites, gays, those of mixed race, and blacks who integrate with whites.

Not much, you would agree. Besides, the man was only "criticizing", so what? I mean, where exactly is the offense, with lots of people criticizing lots of other people? Especially, since the man, as you will hear listening to the news clip attached, got a permit from his mothership department manager. So I just had to let my fingers run over the keyboard to get some more on that curious case. Oh boy... don't I wish I had skipped to another topic!

The mere headline of an article on the SPLC (Southern Poverty Law Center) site DHS Employee Promotes Race War in Spare Time, Advocates Mass Murder of Whites provides more information than the stumbling and mumbling piece in HuffPost. Not to mention the picture of the protagonist:

Off-duty, he calls himself “the Irritated Genie.” He’s a gay-bashing, revenge-seeking black nationalist who advocates on his website – War on the Horizon – the mass murder of whites and the “ethnic cleansing” of “black-skinned Uncle Tom race traitors.”

“Warfare is eminent,” the website declares, “and in order for Black people to survive the 21st century, we are going to have to kill a lot of whites – more than our Christian hearts can possibly count.”

A former supervisor of Kimathi’s at the DHS told Hatewatch, “Everybody in the office is afraid of him.”

“This guy is filled with hate,” the supervisor continued. “People are afraid he will come in with a gun someday and go postal. I am astounded, he’s employed by the federal government, let alone Homeland Security.”

I was astounded too, mostly by that paid administrative leave. Well, as a gist of the matter, that should do, however the devil (and the enjoyment) is in the details. I just had to have a look at the website in question, while it's still intact out there. It is called War on the Horizon and it's chock-full of goodies, starting with the Creed:

And, speaking about black VIP's, our Irritated Genie doesn't spare them in his "criticism" (using Ms Caldwell's euphemistic approach):

That will be enough, only to mention that Jews have a special place in the Irritated Bowel Genie's heart, being called by him "portuguese smallhats (white so-called jews)". Apparently, in the irritated brain, these "portuguese smallhats" "invaded the Afrikan continent, raped Black women, kidnapped the children and raised them in europe". Hm... interesting point that, no doubt. Smells like it came from one David Duke, the Grand Lizard, but should I believe in such a coincidence? Well, yes, I probably should at that.

Well, now we can go back to the Department of Homeland Serenity. The lenience they display (so far, at least) toward the Irritated Genie, is almost (but not quite) on par with their willful blindness when recruiting that character in the first place and allowing him to play around with this Internet conduit of his all-inclusive hate, racism, misogyny, homophobia and other endearing traits.

But (thanks to a commenter Erika at the SPLC article) it appears that the case of Irritated Genie is not unique. Check the case of one Arabic Assassin rapper:

When Bassam Khalaf raps, he's the Arabic Assassin. His obscenity-laced CD, "Terror Alert," includes rhymes about flying a plane into a building and descriptions of himself as a "crazy, suicidal Arabic ... equipped with bombs."

Until last week, Khalaf also worked as a baggage screener at George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

"I've been screening your bags for the past six months, and you don't even know it," said Khalaf, who also said Thursday that he is not really a terrorist and that his rhymes are exaggerations meant to gain attention.

I would say that my concern will be not with my suitcase, rather with the suitcases of Khalaf's friends that may somehow slip through his "screening"... Oh well, I never flew from or via Houston anyway.

Someone must clean up his act, I suggest. And I don't mean the Irritated Genie, who is, most probably, an intractable black version of a KKK activist, with a dire need of a padded room to boot. Nor am I concerned with Bassam Khalaf the Arabic Assassin. Only with the folks what meet you at the airport with smiles and latex gloves, and their wise management.

Update: Someone noticed my reference to latex gloves. It appears that latex is out of fashion and has been phased out of TSA operation. Still, one is entitled to be concerned, like this blogger here. Provided one doesn't exaggerate like in this sentence:

I don't think it is the throat that TSA investigates, at least not where the gloves are concerned. Just saying.

Emad Burnat's paper schweitzer

This post is not so much about what the Oscar nominee Emad Burnat says. It's more about things he doesn't mention.

Burnat's and Guy Davidi's documentary 5 Broken Cameras has been nominated this year for the prestigious Oscar awards. It's about the weekly demonstrations in the palestinian village of Bil'in. It can be watched online here.

Burnat wrote an opinion article at Huffington Post. It's what I call a paper schweitzer - you know, that cheese full of holes, more air than substance. The tricky part is that his holes are strategically placed in spots where real substance would have damaged the case he's trying so hard to make. Like this little hollow gem:

That's because, on any given day, there are more than 500 Israeli checkpoints, roadblocks, and other obstacles to movement throughout the West Bank -- an area less than 2 percent the size of California on which some 2.5 million Palestinians live under a ubiquitous system of repression.

 You have to admire the man's ability to pack so many half-truths, omissions, and outright lies in so small a paragraph. Kinda reminds me all those unsuccessful attempts to close the lid on an overstuffed suitcase. In this case, however, the lid must be thrown wide open, which is much easier, believe me.

I've never bothered to check the number of roadblocks and such throughout the West Bank. I remember a time when there weren't any of those "obstacles to movement", not in the West Bank, not in Gaza. A time when people travelled freely both ways - to and from Israel. A time when buses and cafes in Israel exploded at least twice a week, when palestinian workers took out kinves and murdered their employers or just passers-by on the streets, when mothers wouldn't take their kids to malls or other crowded places because fun could rapidly become very dangerous those days. To claim that the checkpoints are merely the actions of a system of repression, which is what Burnat does, is an outright lie. The so called obstacles are our way of defending our lives. Sorry to bother such an important person like an Oscar nominee with such trivial matters as few israeli lives, but they seem rather important from our side of the fence. Um...let's see: checkpoints versus exploding/knife-wielding allahu akhbar shouting cold-blooded terrorists. Tough choice - not!

"...some 2.5 million Palestinians live under a ubiquitous system of repression" - it seems that Burnat, although a talented cameraman, is not so bright when it comes to simple math. Only about 150,000 palestinian arabs live in area C, where Bil'in is, under partial israeli control. The rest, up to 2.5 milion, live in areas under the Palestinian Authority control. Could the PA be what he really meant by "ubiquitous system of repression"? If so, I'm in the rather unpleasant position of agreeing with the man. No point in arguing with  the truth, I always say.

 Coming up next, a really, really big hole in the paper schweitzer. I can't believe Burnat isn't aware of the twists and turns of Bil'in residents' legal battle against the israeli authorities, yet he chooses to write about "Israelis and Palestinians who understand that the true meaning of peace [...] is not the absence of tension, but the presence of justice". Um...tricky. The "presence of justice" is exactly what the people of Bil'in are not interested in, since they have already sued the israeli authorities - more than once - and won - mostly, but, as we'll see, justice wasn't quite what they wanted. From the above linked judgement (pages 5,6):

In accordance with the procedural agreement between the parties, a survey in the field with counsel of the petitioners in HCJ 11363/04 (Ms. Atiyah, adv.) and with representatives of the village of Bil'in was held on December 22 2004. During the survey Ms. Atiyah was given the map of scheme 210/8. It appears, from the State's response to that petition, that despite what had been stipulated, Ms. Atiyah did not appear at a meeting with respondents regarding sections C and D and did not relay any written response regarding those sections. At the opening of the hearing of said petition, it was relayed on behalf of Ms. Atiyah that the petitioners are rescinding their petition, and the petition was abated (on February 16 2005). The petition having been abated, respondents began implementation of sequestration order Tav/40/04 (Boundary Alteration) and the erection of the fence.
10. After just a few days a number of residents of Bil'in, represented by Ms. Atiya, adv., submitted a new petition (on February 21 2005; HCJ 1778/05). That petition was based on the argument that the fence construction work had begun without them having been given the right to a hearing and to appeal. The new petition did not mention the previous petition, which had been abated at the petitioners' request. At the end of the hearing of that petition, the Court ordered the abatement of the petition due to unclean hands (on March 3 2005).

Sorry for the lengthy quote. As can be clearly seen, the villagers of Bil'in have already won their petition.But then, they willingly canceled it, only to file a new complaint days later. Does it make any sense to you?

So...what justice are you talking about, Emad Burnat? The one you had but did not want?

Maybe a glimpse at those nonviolent demonstrations would shed some light on this rather puzzling matter:

Alice Walker's hidden dichotomy

Of course, Alice Walker's refusal to allow the release of a new hebrew edition of her book The Color Purple shouldn't surprise anyone. It was out of boredom that I decided to browse her official site, and found some revealing blog entries (no long quotes, sorry, the content is copyrighted).

The celebrated author lives in a fantasy land, where noble palestinian heroes bravely do nothing in face of the israeli aggression. Blooming and joyful, just waiting for the israelis to do whatever hair raising deeds they're plotting. Non-violent resistance, she calls it. Barely a month after Itamar, just a few weeks after Mary Jean Gardner was blown to pieces in a terror bombing in Jerusalem, less than two weeks after the 16 years old Daniel Viflic was killed by an anti-tank missile fired from Gaza at a yellow school bus, comes Alice Walker to assure us that palestinian resistance has nothing whatsoever to do with violence. Nope, it's all love and poppy fields.

I find it ironic that she expresses her disappointment with William Faulkner for allegedly stating that he'd shoot down niggers in the streets to show his allegiance to white southerners (she writes n___s - a bit odd for an acclaimed writer to be afraid of words). That's because the distinguished novelist herself clearly states her own allegiance to the good and worthy arab palestinians, israelis or not, seen as a total antithesis to the dreadful israeli jews. This is exactly Faulkner's dichotomy - if you're going to support one side, you have to be prepared to hurt the other side. The only difference being that Alice Walker wouldn't shoot jews in the streets. She just walks away, completely ignoring jews being shot in the streets.

Mohamed Merah's ugly legacy

Right after the brutal attack on a jewish school in Toulouse, when everybody still believed it to be the act of a neo-nazi, opinion columnists immediately jumped onto the anti-Sarkozy bandwagon, blaming the french president and his party for the recrudescence of far-right ideology in France. However, when it became clear that the murderer was arab and muslim, the opinion columnists immediately jumped into...the anti-Sarkozy bandwagon, of course. Leaving aside the astonishing absence of the term "antisemitism" in opinion pieces about a deliberate attack on jews, what's striking in these articles is the columnists' view on the victims, as mere instruments for political leaders to use as they see fit and rightly so.

And now this:

A teacher has been suspended in France for allegedly asking pupils to hold a one-minute silence for gunman Mohamed Merah, who killed seven people, according to local reports.

A french teacher has asked her french students to hold a one-minute silence for the murderer of other french students...Why?

Because, according to her students, the teacher claimed that Merah's links to Al-Qaeda were invented by the media and by - you guessed it - Sarkozy himself.

I'm not sure how to label the hysteric demonization of Sarkozy, which ironically puts him on a par with our own Bibi. Is it an issue of ideological left against political right? The wall-to-wall condemnation of Sarkozy's politics in the left leaning media in the aftermath of the massacre seems more like a cult-like alignment behind prevailing preexisting beliefs than serious evaluations of realities on the ground. The New York Times editorial goes even further:

In response to these killings, Mr. Sarkozy has proposed tightening some laws, but his approach seems far too broad. He would make it a crime to repeatedly view Web sites that advocate terrorism and would take action against French residents who travel abroad for training or “indoctrination” by terror groups. It is not clear how such rules would be carried out, or if they can be without curtailing the rights of law-abiding people

I'm not advocating putting people under a microscope, but what about the rights of law-abiding people not to have their loved ones slaughtered by residents who travel abroad for training by terror groups?

The more I think about the reasons behind this vicious attack on Sarkozy, the more it seems that what really triggered it wasn't the outrage at the murders, or concern for the values of western democratic societies. No, it was this wonderful opportunity to smear an opponent and bring the flock of his voters back to the folds of the left. I'm at a loss of words for a definition of this attitude - "moral bankruptcy" floats in and out, but somehow it doesn't seem right. How do we call a situation where ideology trumps morality, common sense, facts on the ground, basic human emotions like compassion? Wouldn't it be the same kind of extremism that's likely to curtail the rights of law-abiding people who happen to be on the wrong side of this ideology?

A picture is worth a thousand missiles

While everybody's arguing for or against preemptive strikes on an Iran going nuclear, few people pay attention to a different type of war already going on for quite some time on the virtual battlefield called propaganda.

I've recently had a rather unpleasant surprise when, browsing Jewish and Israel related topics on a forum, I came across a particularly nasty comment about israeli massacres. The poster even bothered to upload a very suggestive picture as tangible proof - and of small children, to boot! This one:

Is it deja vu for you, too? The children in the picture are, of course, two of the three Jewish children murdered by Palestinian Arabs in Itamar last March. Following the link helpfully provided in the comment, I found myself in the virtual midst of our sworn enemies, the Hezbollah. Yes, the picture of Itamar children has been posted on Al Manar as proof of alleged israeli savagery and blood lust...alongside an article to match.

If you click properties you can see that the name of the picture is itamar-massacre-caricature. However, since Israel haters are more than eager to cling to half a hair if only it drips anti-Zionist venom, nobody on their side is likely to even think to check the source of the picture. I bet most of them don't even know what Itamar is. Sure enough, I found the same article, with the same picture, on a number of pro-Palestinian sites. Like this one, which also has a number of links to Atzmon's writings. How suitable.

In the same article there's a picture of a girl holding a "Stop killing us sign":

Oh, this sweet oppressed Palestinian girl...but is she?

Obviously, I thought, since we already know about several "borrowed" pictures, there might be others out there we are still unaware of, harder to detect. That's why I aimed my Google at another choice target, the website of PressTV. As expected, anti-Israel article with big picture of poor Palestinians' homes being destroyed in East Jerusalem by big bad bulldozer-friendly Israelis:

Ach, the never disappointing PressTV! Expect the worse, they will deliver it. Even if they have to shoot themselves in foot, as I'll prove in an instant.

PressTV posted the dusty news on December 5, 2011. But....but...were are the news? Because Electronic Intifada clearly says that the same desperate Palestinian mourned the destruction of his beloved home, this time in Gaza, by same bulldozer watched by same soldier on May 17, 2004. If we ever had any doubt that history repeats itself...

One website that caught my eye proudly claimed "This site provide a complete Islamic browsing". Complete with a heart-breaking plea to boycott Israeli products, and equally heart-breaking pictures:

Islamic, and complete, is it? Somehow, I find it hard to believe that Daled Amos would agree (browse down for the picture).

Which shows that there are not enough pictures of Israeli atrocities against poor Palestinians,despite the army of photographs ready and more than willing to shoot them. The pro-Palestinian media, struggling with a severe shortage of Israeli massacres, came up with recycled and stolen pictures. In other words, they chose to lie. They even use our own dead against us. And they don't even bother to deny it:

It is no longer worthy to describe media and information sector as the fourth power only. Changes happened in the region proved that media is no longer a channel to broadcast news, but it turned to be a news and stance maker station. It makes the act and its reaction.

Clear enough?

Statement by Anne Bayefsky at the Third Substantive Preparatory Meeting of the Durban Review Conference

This powerful speech summarizes the meaning, the substance and the goals of the Durban traveling circus. Read it.

The eyes of millions of victims of racism, xenophobia and intolerance are upon YOU, the representatives of states and the United Nations. And instead of hope you have given them despair. Instead of truth you have handed them diplomatic double-talk. Instead of combating antisemitism you have handed them a reason for Jews to fear UN-driven hatemongering on a global scale.

The Durban conference – allegedly dedicated to combating racism, antisemitism and other forms of intolerance – will open April 20th on the anniversary of the birth of Adolf Hitler without agreement on even so much as remembering the Holocaust and the war against the Jews. Your draft words on the Holocaust – the very foundation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights – have been narrowed to the barest mention from previous versions. And if the minor reference survives at all – it will be a testament to your interest in Jews that died 60 years ago, while tolerating and encouraging the murder of Jews in the here and now.

Furthermore, the draft before you demonizes the Jewish state of Israel and then has the audacity to pretend to care about antisemitism in a single word buried among 17 pages. Antisemitism means discrimination against the Jewish people. Since it is evident that almost none of you have the courage to say it, the face of modern antisemitism IS the UN – your – discrimination against Israel, the embodiment of the Jewish people’s right to self-determination.

Over and over again we have heard a massive misinformation campaign about the content of these proceedings and the draft before you. We have heard the tale that this draft does not single out Israel, that the hate has been removed, that the fault of the antisemitism at Durban I was that of NGOs while states and the UN were blameless.

Perhaps you think that journalists and victims will not bother to read for themselves the Durban Declaration adopted by some governments. There is only one state mentioned in it – Israel. There is only one state associated with racist practices in it – Israel. And yet the very first thing that this draft before you does is to reaffirm that abomination, abomination for Jews and Arabs living in Israel’s free and democratic society, and for all the victims of racism ignored therein. Lawyers call it incorporation by reference when they hope nobody reads the small print. The propaganda stops here. We have read it. We understand the game. And we decry the ugly effort to repeat the Durban agenda to isolate and defeat Israel politically, as every effort to do so militarily for decades has failed.

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Chair of this Preparatory Committee also told us this week that the Durban Declaration in all its aspects is a consensus text. Perhaps they are unfamiliar with the Canadian reservations made in Durban in 2001 which state categorically that the Middle East language was outside the conference’s jurisdiction and not agreed. Perhaps they failed to notice that one of the world’s greatest democracies, the United States, voted with its feet and walked out of the Durban I hatefest? The Durban Declaration has never represented a global consensus among free and democratic nations. When the head of the Islamic conference treats Durban as a bible, in their words, it is more accurately a defamation of religions.

This week you decided which states ought to serve in a leadership role at next week’s conference. Among them are some of the world’s leading practitioners of racism, not those interested in ending it. You have also decided to hand a global megaphone to the President of a state which advocates genocide and denies the Holocaust.

So in a state of shock and dismay we address ourselves not to the human rights abusers that glorify the Durban Declaration or its next incarnation, but to democracies -- and we ask: Will Germany sit on Hitler’s birthday and listen to the speech of an advocate of genocide against the Jewish people and grant legitimacy to the forum which tolerates his presence? What about the United Kingdom, the birthplace of the Magna Carta? Or France that helped to ship last generation’s Jews to crematoriums?

You could have fought racism. You chose instead to fight Jews. You could have promoted the universal standards against racism already in existence. You chose instead to diminish their importance in the name of alleged cultural preferences. You could have protected freedom of expression. You chose instead to undermine it by twisted concepts of incitement. You could have brought victims of racism together in a common cause. You chose instead to pit victims against each other in an ugly struggle for meagre recognition. For those democracies that remain under these circumstances you are ultimately responsible for what can only be called an appalling disservice to real victims of racism, xenophobia and related intolerance around the worl

Khaled Abu Toameh: The Pro-Palestinians' Real Agenda

Khaled Abu Toameh, an Arab Muslim, is a veteran award-winning journalist who has been covering Palestinian affairs for nearly three decades.

His article On Campus: The Pro-Palestinians' Real Agenda is a mandatory read. I shall not spoil it too much, just a quote or two:

I never imagined that I would need police protection while speaking at a university in the U.S. I have been on many Palestinian campuses in the West Bank and Gaza Strip and I cannot recall one case where I felt intimidated or where someone shouted abuse at me.

What is happening on the U.S. campuses is not about supporting the Palestinians as much as it is about promoting hatred for the Jewish state. It is not really about ending the “occupation” as much as it is about ending the existence of Israel.

Another spike of Holocaust envy

Mick Hartley quotes the head of the Department of Islamic Studies at King Saud University:

One of the important things that we must tell people is that what is going on in Palestine today is a real holocaust. This is the real holocaust. A holocaust is not the burning of 50-60 Jews in Germany or Switzerland, but the Jews continue to call it the Holocaust.

That's a relatively easy to discern case of Joo-hate. Unfortunately that's what is being taught to millions of children in many Islamic countries, but this couldn't be helped.

But here comes a Palestinian leader considered a moderate by many, a politician we are supposed to make peace with. And what does he preach?

The Palestinian Authority president has accused Israel of maintaining policies in Jerusalem that are tantamount to "an ethnic cleansing campaign". Speaking to leaders from Muslim countries gathered in Senegal, Mahmoud Abbas said Israel's actions were calculated to force Palestinians from the city.

"Our people in Jerusalem are under an ethnic cleansing campaign," he said. "They are suffering from a series of decisions like tax hikes and construction prohibitions." Abbas said Palestinians were "facing a campaign of annihilation" by the Israeli state.

Ethnic cleansing and annihilation. In other words, the "real Holocaust" again. Of course, this was announced in Arabic - for internal use, so to speak. The man is gradually mastering the double-tongued manner of public speeches of his predecessor. One for the West, one for the East...

The real face of boycott movement

The dust of the UCU boycott brouhaha is still in the air, but the first glimpses of the practical effect the resolutions might have could be already seen. When the leading UK universities such as the ones belonging to the Russel Group reject the idea outright, there is not a lot left of the resolution in its practical meaning.

But the boycott, I am afraid, wasn't at all about a short term practical goal. The people who spearhead the boycott drive could not care less about the scientific freedom or about cooperation on the joint projects. Moreover - they know very well that scientific cooperation cannot and will not be stopped by a Stalinist style embargo on knowledge.

No, this is not what they work for. They pursue a different long term target - that of stripping the hated Zionist entity of legitimization. The mere fact of Israel's existence is the thorn in their side, and nothing, including the most unholy alliances, will deter them from that goal.

To see the real face of the boycott movement leaders, it is sufficient to view the clip that recorded the amazing treatment of the last Israel-Lebanon war by John Rose* - the leader and main sponsor of the boycott motion. I have made the effort and made it to the end of the clip, so can you (although it may make you sick, so be warned).

While the wild mix of lies, half-truths and sheer ignorance is peerless, there is another feature of the clip that is really exceptional: the level of hate displayed by this character. It distorts the speech and it distorts the face so strongly that there really is only one historic prototype that comes to mind:









No, it is not a submission to the "separated at birth" contest, and I apologize in advance before every reader that may be offended by the comparison. Still, there was nothing else that could be compared to this extraordinary eruption of hate - not even the speeches by Rose's spiritual mentor - one Sheik Nasrallah, levelheaded and balanced in comparison.

And if you have the patience to view the clip to the end, you shall see that nothing short of destruction of the Zionist Entity will satisfy our good speaker. And that his hypocritical care about Lebanese and Palestinians' lot is a very minor theme of his hate speech.

Topple, disband, eliminate... of course, Mr Rose does not mean "kill them all". There is no need to add that part, really. Just to lick the chops in eager anticipation.

Not in your lifetime, quisling.

(*)Tell me who your friends are, they say. Just as a reminder - professor Rose, besides his other doubtless intellectual achievements, is one of the leaders of the notorious SWP - the so called "socialist" party that would be difficult to distinguish from the no less notorious BNP lately.

From Russia with mixed feelings - part I

The yearly happening in Tel-Aviv that is running for eight years is named "From Russia With Love". It is quite a serious bash, gathering more than two hundred thousand people, usually attended by local dignitaries, and leading Russian performers take part in it.

The timing of the concert is intentionally close to the celebrations of the victory day in Russia, a few days after Russians celebrate the victory in the WW II. Israel in general does not forget who made the main contribution to the Nazis defeat and are grateful to the Russian (and other) nation that sacrificed millions of its sons and daughters for the victory.

This is only a small part of the crowd, and while the ex-Soviet/Russian immigrants are prevalent, more and more Israeli-born sabras and immigrants from other places take part in the happening.

Somewhat to the northeast of the Ayarkon park in Tel Aviv where this bash happens, in the streets of Moscow, another kind of people are celebrating the same victory. This time it is Russian ultra-nationalists who have infused a good deal of religious and xenophobic sentiment into the celebrations of the victory day. Several nationalist parties (in other circumstances its members will cut each other throats cheerfully) have touchingly united their ranks for this rare occasion. You can see the colorful crowd:

Well, one can say, why not? Surely Russians deserve to be proud and happy on this memorable date? And why not let the Cossacks be Cossacks?

What harm is there in these centuries old traditional, if a bit ridiculous these days, uniforms, proudly displayed by the old-timers? None, surely.

But then the festivities turn funky:

"Russia for Russians" says the placard in the picture above. And it is just an appetizer...

This one is more to the point: "Jewish fascism - there is nothing more frightening today!". Why some existing or non-existing Jewish fascism should frighten a citizen of the mighty Russian empire, remains unknown. And the next one does not make the issue clearer:

"Jewish question today is a question of fame or infamy for Russia, a question of life and death for the Russian people", it says. What exactly is that "Jewish question" and how did it become so vital for the Russia and Russian people, especially after most of the Jews have left the area, remains to be explained. But probably wouldn't be...

From Russia with mixed feelings - part II

Fortunately, the famous Russian sense of humor lent the procession some festive spirit.


"The kike dog on the throne", proclaims the placard, referring obviously to Putin's head on the dog's body. Poor Vladimir Vladimirovich, now he seem to be outed too! And the next one brings more clarity to the issue:



"Putin - a Jew via his mother", explains it, referring to an article by B. Beresovsky (the Jewish, albeit converted to Christianity, oligarch that resides in London and does not like Putin very much). "According to Israeli law - a pure Jew", it adds at the bottom, displaying a total confusion between the Judaic laws and Israel, which is not very surprising. The white-on-red text in the background adds some fuel to he conflagration: "Russia is not for Russian retards".

The yarmulke - equipped Putin in the center keeps his left hand on four books: Constitution (obviously Russian, since Israel does not have one yet), Talmud, Cabala and Shulhan Aruch (the main book of Jewish Halachic laws). That is to drive the point in for the most obtuse, obviously.

Now come and tell me it wasn't fun!

Confusion in the Arab street

Haaretz reported today on a poll that may be of some interest to inquiring minds.

The poll's most dramatic finding was that 28 percent of local Arabs did not believe the Holocaust happened, and that among high-school and college graduates the figure was even higher: 33 percent.

I am not sure about the dramatic part: is it re the benefits of higher education?

Asked about Israel's war in Lebanon last summer, 48 percent of the Israeli Arabs polled said they believe Hezbollah's rocket attacks on northern Israel during that war were justified, even though numerous Arabs were killed and wounded as well.

While 89 percent said they view Israel's bombing of Lebanon as a war crime, only 44 percent said they see Hezbollah's attacks on Israel as such.

Er... so what is the big deal? If I do not like somebody, it makes it easier to say things about him/her... There must be some reason for the people polled to dislike us, obviously. And the following statement, no matter how absurd it may seem, only follows in the steps of the previous ones:

Half of Israeli Arab respondents said Hezbollah's capture of the two Israeli soldiers, which sparked the fighting, was justified.

Why? I am not sure this question was in the questionnaire. But could the reason why be that the Israeli Arab chieftains are brainwashing them quite relentlessly, like this:

MK Ahmed Tibi said he doubted some of the findings and said he cannot explain the numbers indicating support for Hezbollah, although he noted that usually there is no empathy for the aggressor, which he said was Israel.

So - the learned Dr. Tibi cannot explain the numbers, but he can easily finger the aggressor, you see.

But, after all, it is not that straightforward as it may have looked to you to start with. Here comes the really mind-boggling part:

The poll also found that Israeli Arabs worry about their future: 62 percent worry that Israel could transfer their communities to the jurisdiction of a future Palestinian state. Sixty percent said they are concerned about a possible mass expulsion.

Among the Arab respondents, 76 percent described Zionism as racist. But more than two-thirds said they would be content to live in the Jewish state, if it existed alongside a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza.

Somebody is mightily confused here. And I suspect it is not me... Yeah.

United in hate under the Mugrabi bridge

While the recent infighting between Hamas and Fatah has shown the mutual hate and enmity between the two main Palestinian factions, it pales into insignificance when both sides raise to an occasion - real or fabricated - to display their Joo-hate.

The waves of hysteria about the newly generated myth about "Israeli Designs on Al-Aqsa" are getting higher and higher by the day. Just to watch the language used by various Muslim sources is highly educational, seeing a new low in the anti-Israeli propaganda. So:

• Israeli designs on Al-Aqsa (Al Jazeera)
• Attempts to “obliterate” the Islamic stamp of Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque (Al Jazeera)
• Ethnic cleansing operation (Al Jazeera)
• Israel's intentions to destroy holy Islamic sites (Abu Mazen via Haaretz)
• What Israel is doing in its practices and attacks against our sacred Muslim sites in Jerusalem and al-Aqsa is a blatant violation (King Abdullah II via Haaretz)

And, of course, the created myth is immediately foolowed by dire threats. The threats come even from the Israeli Muslims:

MK Talab El-Sana (United Arab List) warned on Tuesday that the excavations are likely to ignite a third intifada, which will include protests and conflict throughout the Arab and Muslim world.

It is clear then what should be expected and, indeed, came from the others:

"I have a stern warning for the enemy," Khaled Meshal said at a news conference in the Syrian capital. Head of the northern branch of the Islamic movement Sheik Ra'ad Salah, and the head of Jerusalem's Supreme Muslim Council Ikrima Sabri called this week for all Muslims in Israel to flock to the Temple Mount complex to prevent Israel from actions that they say are meant to destroy the Mugrabi Gate. Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday said that Israeli excavation works near the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem were likely to endanger regional peace efforts, Israel Radio reported.

But what is really going on?

The dig is part of a plan to rebuild the Mugrabi bridge walkway planned to run from the Dung gate to the Mugrabi gate, which serves as the primary entrance to the compound referred to by Jews as the Temple Mount and Muslims as al-Haram al-Sherif, the Noble Sanctuary.

It is easy to see that the location of the bridge is a) outside the Temple Mount and b) quite far away from the Al-Aqsa mosque. To get a better visual impression, here is a snapshot of the area (the Mugrabi bridge is marked by the red line):

Currently the bridge is a wooden temporary construction, a clear safety hazard that must be addressed - for the sake of some of the same rubble rousers that create the hysteria today. It's enough to remind that the old bridge collapsed in 2004:

However, the tactics of the Joo-haters are clear: to use the opportunity for heating up the scene and unite the divided Palestinian fractions now is much more important than the destiny of some bridge. And if it collapses again, so what, it is an additional bonus that will allow to blame Zionists anew.

To add fuel to conflagration, some parties would use anything:

Husseini said he suspected that the excavations around the holy site were attempts to tunnel under it - a common allegation among Muslims, though one never substantiated - and demanded that Israel cease all digs immediately.

Of course, coming from the camp that produced uncounted myths like use of uranium shells in Gaza, poisonous gases, dissemination of bird flu, poisoning of wells - this one is not surprising.

The goal of the current Palestinian PR exercise is clear: while overcoming the internal squabbles is difficult to impossible, it would serve all parties to turn the attention to the Zionists' "atrocity". While keeping the knives ready for the next opportune moment.
