Liu Xiaobo awarded 2010 Nobel Peace Prize

It's a rare case when the committee chooses a really deserving candidate, so let's be positive: congratulations to Liu Xiaobo, and may he see freedom soon.

Snoopy, Liu Xiaobo is a great choice for the Nobel Peace Prize, just as Mario Vargas Llosa is an equally fine choice for the Nobel in Literature. Awarding Liu the Nobel while he is their political prisoner has really upset the Chinese govt. which has called it, "blasphemy"! This is really given Big Brother of Beijing a poke right in the eye! For more on this story, read "Lia Xiaobo Wins the Nobel Peace Prize" at http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/10/08/world/main6938341.shtml?tag=cbsnewsSectionContent.3

OT: October 10th is the birthday of Daniel Pearl, the Jewish American reporter-musician who was kidapped and murdered by Islamist Terrorists in Pakistan in early 2002. In his memory every October since then has been Daniel Pearl World Music Days sponsored by the Daniel Pearl Foundation, run by Daniel's parents, Judah and Ruth. This year there are more than 1400 events scheduled in more than 60 countries around the world. There will be some 33 events in Israel; link to http://www.danielpearlmusicdays.org/events.php and click on Israel to see listing. Among the groups performing in Israel this month are the Friends of Daniel Pearl, (FOD) a group of American musicians whom Daniel knew and performed with. Have been at two of their events, one in Boston in Oct. 2007 and one here in Arlington Virginia in Oct. 2008. It was awfully moving to hear them talk of their friend, Danny and hear them play some of the same music they had played with him. Their website, which includes their schedule in a sidebar is http://www.fodfest.org

Indeed, although a little of Nobel's dynamite might be more appropriate.
