Christopher Hitchens RIP

It is difficult to imagine the world without this man, whether you agreed with him or were his bitter enemy. His brilliance and incisive intellect will be missed sorely in the world where mediocrity is on the rise.

Rest in peace, Hitch.

Didn't agree with his stance on a number of issues but he was always worth listening to. The world s a poorer place for his passing

Notice everyone is using a smoking picture. Little commentary, there?

Yep. They don't make them like Hitch frequently.

Well, not from me. He knew his Scotch too.

I doubt if anybody ever agreed with everything Hitch wrote and said. But he was undoubtedly a rare person who was not afraid to say what he thought was right, no matter who offended. Will miss him

Indeed.

The only thing I would have wanted to take issue with the Hitch on was his stance on Israel: in "Hitch 22", he does fall for the "stealing the land" bit. Given all the evidence for the continuous presence of Jews for 3000 years, this is a shame. But then, he was friends with Edward Said, who also tended to adopt this stance.

I wonder if anyone ever managed to put this evidence before him, especially as the rest of "Hitch 22" was a marvel. I even agreed with him on the Iraq War, as I did with Nick Cohen on that one.

Well, you can't have everything... and Israel really was his weakness. He tended to lose some of his edge when taking up Israel- and Jewish- related issues. Like with that Chanukah celebrations some years ago.
