Clare Solomon and her puny 100 years of persecution

In fact, this headline is confusing, I can see it now. Clare Solomon, president of the University of London Union, is only 37 years old. You may want to say that 37 is a bit too old for a student. But you better shut up, because saying this will be ageism and as such a punishable offence in Britain.

So let's focus on what Ms Solomon says and not on her age and/or looks, please. She says:
The view that Jews have been persecuted all throughout history is one that has been fabricated in the last 100 or so years to justify the persecution of Palestinians.
I read that and went speechless. Really, for crying out loud, what do they teach them students in Britain these days? This is so XX century one wants to cry indeed. Don't they have enough politically correct Palestinian propag teachers in University of London? Don't these teachers tell them that it is already for more than 2000 years, since the Crucifixion of Shahid Jesus, a Palestinian, the son of Mary the Palestinian, that these dastardly Zionists persecute and oppress the glorious Palestinian people?

I am afraid that Ms Solomon will celebrate her 47th birthday still as a student in University of London with such pitiful scholarly achievements. And then, who knows - as we Jews say, till 120...

I wouldn't focus on Ms Solomon looks anyway - Helen Thomas was more than enough for me, thank you.

You know, it's funny how people deny that jews ever suffered persecutions, but are ready to believe everything when it comes to palestinian arabs (conveniently forgetting that jews are palestinians too...).

Yeah, it is kind of funny when you think of it. Not really, of course...

This be a special Mormon garden, according to what is known about the lady.

Jesus was not a Palestinians, but a Jew born on the West Bank; whose mother Mary had just returned there from Gallilee with her husband Joseph.

Also Joseph's home town, where Jesus was born, was the Jewish West Bank settlement of Bethleham.

On that note, I am signing off on my Christmas & New Year break until Jan. 4th. Hope everyone at Simply Jews has a beautiful holiday season and look forward to talking with you in 2011.

Happy Holidays.

You are right, David, but try to tell it to the people who invent all that bullshit in this post...

And Merry Christmas to you and yours, David, and happy New Year!

Then why bring either up in the first place? This sort of underhanded stab undermines the rest of what you have to say and is insulting to mature students who make the decision to return to education to study hard and better themselves after having chosen other paths - been employed, had kids, whatever. What about that means they don't deserve respect or are any less legitimately students than 18 year olds fresh out of school? Not to mention that I can't see *any* earthly reason to mention her appearance either.

Honestly, if you're going to talk about bigotry, stop being a hypocrite first.

Dear Ben,

Since you are still being chocked by your righteous indignation, I guess it will be hardly helpful to point out that the age of the lady is discussed in the original article that is helpfully linked from this post that excited you so much.

I totally agree that there isn't *any* earthly reason to mention her appearance and I have no idea why you did so.

For your continuing education, hypocrisy and bigotry are used by you wrongly - at least for this case, unless you wanted to say something completely different.

And of course, being myself an elderly student, I can only applaud people who, as you say, are mature and return to education.

Settled? If not, you can always write to the moderators.
