On the subject of cormorants

Not that there is any reason to post this, if echoing a post by Francis isn't a reason enough. Somehow the cormorants fascinate me. Their pitiless emerald eyes and that mean attitude (ain't it stupid to ascribe our traits to animals?) are so reminiscent of reptiles, that ... what the heck, here are the pictures:

And now in flight:

Rarely have I seen a cormorant in flight. Mostly they hunker on their haunches, staring out across the water and looking vaguely menacing.

They are not very good fliers, I mean where the noise and frequency of wing flaps are concerned. But as far as diving is considered, they are very cool.

Thanks, Jams, but I am afraid you are too kind.

Notice how their wing feathers are spread out? Sea gulls (we are at the beach this week) spread their tail feathers on takeoff and landing. Keep them tucked together the rest of the time.

Guest. Huh. Been through a bout of "scare ware" here and had to dump all of the passwords and such. System restore saved the day. Forgot to log-in here.
