William Schabas quit, but his work was already done

This is generally good but somewhat bitter news:
Why did William Schabas finally step down as chair of the UN inquiry on Gaza?

The latest revelation that he was paid by the PLO for legal advice in 2012 was the last straw, but the decision came in wake of a sustained campaign by UN Watch starting from the day of his appointment, which included videos of Schabas calling for the indictment of Israeli leaders, a formal UN Watch legal brief demanding his recusal that was submitted to the UN in an official filing, and UN Watch op-eds urging legal scholars to speak out against the absurd appointment of Schabas. Many did so.
Kudos to UN Watch and others who fought for the removal of the blighter.

However:
Canadian academic William Schabas was appointed last August by the head of the UN Human Rights Council to lead a three-member group looking into alleged war crimes during Operation Protective Edge in Gaza.

In a letter to the commission, a copy of which was seen by Reuters on Monday, Schabas said he will resign immediately to prevent the issue from overshadowing the preparation of the report and its findings, which are due to be published in March.
In other words, the timing of the resignation is not to change the so called "findings", which were doubtlessly predetermined from the moment Mr Schabas was assigned to the post. And the farce of resignation will lend the document a bit of the desperately needed credibility.

Oh well...

Thinking about Judge Kangaroo Schabas' actions I 'm convinced that he's a very smart person. He took a job what paid him probably tens of thousands of rials/rubles/Euros/Dollars/whatever knowing that he is completely disqualified to take it. He knows the fate of Goldstone who is now a pariah in law and UN circles, he resigned in good time, pocketing his money and will be seen as a victim of Zionist conspiracy. He will be a hero of the UN and will be hired in the future by oil-rich Islamic countries, African dictators and kleptocrats, the UN etc.

Are you sure that Hetman Petljura's grandma wasn't Jewish?

Good points all. The resignation was timed very precisely for a multitude of reasons indeed.

Why wouldn't she be Jewish? Every bad guy has a Jewish somebody in his family tree. Fact.

Although I dislike all your choices as I am not Republican, the point I want to make is a strategic one. The Republicans need to look towards elect-ability over philosophy.
You need someone that can swing Florida. Without Florida, the election is over before it begins. Jeb Bush or Rubio might be able to put Florida in the Republican column although it would still be a battle.

Hi Stan,

For obvious reason (not being an American citizen) I didn't participate in this edition of the Forum.

But I guess you may have pointed to the weakness in the arguments in this post. I wouldn't be a judge, anyhow.

Best wishes.

That's a fair description of the life of an average Zionist. Indeed.

Hm... yes, the place where many of these posts are posted may be a bit misleading, same with my "signature" under the post. However, the posts marked by "The WoW" tag are produced by a group of bloggers that is named "The Watcher of Weasels Council" and consists (I being an exception) of US bloggers, mostly Republicans and only a few of them Jewish. While some of their views may not be fully shared by yours truly, the rules of the Council are that all of the Council posts be published by all members, so this may explain the confusion caused.

You can see the Watcher Council central site here:

I guess I take these to be your views, as they are the people you have invited to comment in your forum. I like the way you write, which is why I look in here. I do have to say that for a blog that is about Jews, the people you quoted from in the forum are the farthest thing from being representative of American Jews (assuming that is who would be commenting on an American election). The Jewish demographic in America is overwhelmingly Democratic (> 70%). The people quoted are 100% Republican.
