Norks again: a curious case of a dog that is biting you no matter what

I doubt that anyone expected the new North Korean tyrant to be more human or friendly than the expired one. So, just to keep the warm and fuzzy feeling of an old familiar shoe that keeps your old corn pinched, here is another NK story:

The scenario is not new: after blackmailing the good ole US into another food assistance package deal, which is supposed to bring some respite from burgeoning NK nuclear program, North Korea threatened "sacred war" against the South in a huge rally in the capital Sunday...

• Dogs bite, we know that. After all, isn't it why we keep the dogs around?
• Some of the dogs, though, bite the same hand that feeds them. People tend to get rid of dogs like these, in a variety of ways.
• Only a few dogs bite the above mentioned hand while being fed. I don't have to tell you what should be done with those, should I?

This dog is not just biting by itself, it does its considerable best to spread its particular brand of rabidness, infecting other dogs. In the long run the "containment", "engagement" and other euphemisms for submitting to blackmail are going to extract a very high cost.

Anyone knows a vet that will put this one out of its misery?

For too many years to count I was an unwavering follower of an old definition of ultimate chutzpa: to take a crap on the neighbors' porch and then knock on their door and ask for some toilet paper.

Recently, however, this cornerstone belief has been destroyed in one single blow:

I am not sure whether Mr Beinart is genuinely baffled by the question he twits tweets around or, possibly, there is some deeper meaning to it. In any case, I would like to turn it around another time.

When a leftist places quotation marks around the word rockets, when a leftist terms attacks on civilian populations a matter of human nature, when a leftist dismisses rockets as crude, homemade, and unguided, or blames Israelis for their use, when a leftist notes that rockets have killed "only 28" Israelis, or sniffs or jeers at the fact that one out of seven Israelis, one million in all, are currently in rocket range – it may be time to ask, what it is, exactly, that's supposed to make a person a leftist?

Pussy Riot

Members of the Russian girl-band "Pussy Riot" are no pussies. They knew what they were risking protesting against Putin's regime.

Yes, their band's name brings a silly smile to my face too. And I do hope that Dick, who is one of our "regulars", will comment on this post. Yet what is happening to the young mothers Mary and Nadya is as serious as it gets.

The girls were upset that the Russian Orthodox Patriarch openly supported Putin during the recent "elections". So they smuggled a guitar into the Mafia-built kitch Temple of Christ the Saviour. They spent 40 seconds jumping up and down near the altar and afterwards, in the studio, used the footage to record a "prayer" song for Putin to be deposed. They called it "action", which makes it a Pussy Riot Action.



Guess what punishment is in store for Mary and Nadya? Seven (!) years. They are charged with a criminal offence under a law normally reserved for organized criminals for premeditated acts committed using arms. You get a maximum of 5 years for manslaughter. They are in prison now awaiting trial.

Russian church officials first called for a stiff punishment. Eventually they figured the servants of Jesus were not going to win this particular "PR war" and called for "kindness". Putin has personally interfered in the girls' "apostasy" trial, calling for a stiff penalty.

Meanwhile, some Russian Orthodox Christians have been calling the families of the arrested girls threatening to disembowel their children.

One has to wonder whether Russian men will ever grow balls or if they will prefer the safety of shame in the shade of Pussies' bravery.

Maradona as a champion of Palestinian cause

According to this, Diego Armando Maradona is now a new cheerleader of the Palestinian cause: "I am the number one fan of the Palestinian people."

Good, I would say: Palestinians could do with a worthy champion of their cause. And Maradona is known to go the few extra steps in support of a cause:

One could even protest that Maradona makes a few steps too many, but it's all in a good cause, isn't it? Besides, he has a strong argument in favor of his views:

That one for sure. Diego Armando Maradona has fought against quite a few causes of injustice during his lifetime. Like that cause that gained a glorious victory for his team* and the glorious title "Hand of God"** for himself:

Nor the bloody fight against his tendency to sniff-sniff and snort-snort various controlled substances.

Of course, under the circumstances, one should be lenient with the case in hand and forget the fact that the man is a convicted thief who still owes close to 30 million Euro to Italian tax authorities. Although, of course, the mentioned amount should be adjusted owing to Italian taxmen alertness that left poor Diego without his two Rolexes and, a bit later, his precious earrings.

But, surely, no matter what his detractors say, we'll always remember him as a peerless ball player first of all and above all.

Er... upon second thought, it will probably be better for Palestinian people if they could take another look at this champion of their cause. Just to make sure.

Update: After all, my warning to Palestinians wasn't really needed. The man is a raving Zionist:

Yeah... now everything must be clear even to Hamas.

Enough to show that the doom I have predicted has already happened. Only not in the way I thought it would. So called "Israel Shamir", even in our world that has its regular share of slimy gutter life, is quite unique. Was unique, since he now succeeded to bring Assange to his own cesspool.

May they both choke on the stuff they swim in.
