London riots illuminated

Not explained, mind you - it's not a poet's job. Explanations are for people digging own graves.

Even if I am somehow able to pick my jaw up off the floor long enough to type something intelligent, every time I try I bump into an impenetrable 5 words wall at the boundary of sanity: "Zero tolerance on Ground Zero".  The implications are turning my skin into a ski resort for all kind of crawling stuff.

Since I'm still picking the pieces of my own brain, I'll make do with the words of a commenter on a thread about the causes of the riots, who wrote that the rioters are "culturally impoverished". To paraphrase these wise words, I'd say that a person who thinks that theft is an "aesthetic matter" brought about by "Zero tolerance on Ground Zero" is morally bankrupt.

On the other hand, many a pervert found death and destruction having great aesthetic value, at least in his/her eyes. Nothing especially new about it.

A cultural contrast. One one side a fine poet, on the other a historian who has probably made sre he will never get another tv series. Then again Starkey was always well known for being a dickhead
