Say it again, Peace!

Some things must be seen to be believed. An article from the loony bin of AlJazeera.com on the recent buzzing of US warships by five Iranian speedboats is followed (as usual) by some priceless comments. I just have to quote one of them, by a poster calls himself Peace, who is (apparently) from Afghanistan:

Did you here the guy trying to sound Arab, what a laugh.
Yep, Peace. Take it easy. We here you. In loud and clere Swahili.

Dog Shoots and Kills Owner

I knew it will eventually come to this.

Under this playful and adoring image of the "man's best friend" hides a bloodthirsty and hateful monster nurturing some darkest plans regarding the future of humanity.

You have been warned...

That political money

This was one surprising message:

An Israeli Arab anti-Zionist group is calling for the boycott of Jewish agencies looking to contribute to Israeli Arab communities in Israel.
The agencies, united under the rubric of the Inter-Agency Task Force on Israeli Arab Issues, are in Israel on a three-day trip to study needs and opportunities for philanthropy in Israeli Arab communities in the Galilee and among Negev Beduins.
So, here are some Jews who have decided to contribute to the well-being of the Israeli Arab community, and what do you know? The money smells wrong to some people.

As a blogger who contributed his puny voice in the aftermath of the second Lebanon war, protesting against some fellow Jews who objected to the emergency aid from UJC and other US Jewish agencies going to the Arab population of Israel, I am quite discombobulated by this strange turn of events.

Of course, the first impulse would be to say "do you know what, dear Makhoul - if you don't want the money - go climb a tree" (I am being tongue-tied on this blog by the restrictions put on me by the owner).

But, upon second thought - dear Makhoul, just pass the money to me. My sense of smell is not what it used to be, so...

Mayor Carmen Kontur-Gronquist's lingerie and some hypocrites

Count on some people to create much ado about nothing.

The mayor's lingerie is a hot topic here, with some residents upset that she posted pictures of herself wearing only a black bra and panties on her MySpace page. She was on one of the town's fire engines.
I really don't know what the noise is about. A person publishes her own pictures on her own Internet page - isn't it the said person's personal business? If someone is incensed by Ms Kontur-Gronquist's use of the fire track - after all she didn't waste any public fuel on that picture...
Lorena Woods is one of those residents who say the photos of a scantily clad mayor reflect badly on Arlington.
Dear Ms Woods - I can assure you that you are making a (honest) mistake: the property prices in Arlington will go through the roof if your mayor keeps going.

On the other hand: I have looked at the shots, and to tell you the truth, that "much ado about nothing" should be modified to "much ado about nothing much".

Net gun clip

Why the content of this (fairly stupid) clip was deemed "Mature" is a mystery.

But it is a cool toy, I agree.

Left, right, left, right...

According to JP, Jerusalemites are feverishly preparing to Bush's visit:

Six youths were arrested Monday night in Jerusalem as they were hanging anti-Bush posters ahead of the American president's visit. The youths told police that they were paid to hang the posters by extreme right-wing activist Itamar Ben Gvir, of the National Jewish Front.
Here is the poster in question:

There is no question that Itamar Ben Gvir is a fruitcake with a diploma. But it will be useful to remember that similar posters were printed and held by Likudniks in various demos just before assassination of Rabin. And more:
Police were preparing Tuesday for a string of protests, by both left and right, during the US president's visit. Right-wing activists were expected to try and create a "human chain" around the walls of Jerusalem's Old City, while left-wing activists were planning to hold a protest in front of the American Consulate in Jerusalem.
I just hope that, during the rainy day tomorrow, the border police folks will have some vision problems and that their clubs will be not too selective.

Left, right, left, right...

Al-Qaeda cash problem

Al-Qaeda finances seem to be in disarray, according to this:

Al-Qaida video messages of Osama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahri can now be downloaded to cell phones, the terror network announced as part of its attempts to extend its influence.
Influence - shminfluence, come on, folks, let's not mince the words. If you are using that Adam Gadahn creep as your chief salesman (when it is widely known that the only sale he made in his life was his candidacy for the Al Qaeda spokesman job), your cash situation is not good, let's be straight about this, at least.

And selling clips of the poorly staged speeches by your various cave dwellers can never compete with such luminaries of freedom as Laure Manaudou, Noelia, Pamela Anderson and many others. So keep dreaming.

On the other hand, a free clip of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's last 30 seconds, accompanied by some easy elevator music... Hmmm.... let me think about it...

Iranian ships 'harass' U.S. Navy, officials say

CNN:

In one radio transmission, the Iranians told the U.S. Navy: "I am coming at you. You will explode in a couple of minutes," the U.S. military officials told CNN.

When the U.S. ships heard that radio transmission, they manned their gun positions and officers were "in the process" of giving the order to fire when the Iranians abruptly turned away, the U.S. officials said.
If I say want I want to, there will be an inevitable accusation of me being a neocon chickenhawk warmongering running lackey dog of CIA/Mossad/Illuminati Zionists. So I shall restrict myself to a question:

Rusty triggers?

Bibi, Ehud, and grass roots

Another day, another political squabble. This time it seems that Olmert is gaining a few points, at least according to Ha'aretz:

It is hard not to admire the prime minister's political maneuvering: He has awarded Shas with the Ministry of Religious Affairs and met with United Torah Judaism, trying to persuade them to enter the coalition. He has pandered to Yisrael Beiteinu leader Avigdor Lieberman by allowing construction at Har Homa, and met with Meretz over the peace process. If you ask outgoing Meretz head Yossi Beilin, Olmert is the left's preferred prime minister. His treatment of the media is no less impressive. Olmert recently taught security heads a lesson on how to use the press for political gain.
Etc. Of course, eels have nothing on Olmert as far as internal politicking is concerned.

And of course, JP doesn't leave any doubts as to where their allegiance belongs:

Netanyahu's associates accuse PM of blocking Bush meeting
Senior Likud sources have accused Prime Minister Ehud Olmert of intervening to prevent US President George W. Bush from meeting with opposition leader Binyamin Netanyahu when he comes to Israel on Wednesday.
Looks like it is Bibi that will have to eat a crow this time, with Olmert gleefully watching the process.
A Kadima source shifted the blame to the White House, hinting that officials in Washington were not interested in Bush meeting Netanyahu because of bad experiences they had with him in the past. "At the White House they think he's a liar, because of his behavior when he was prime minister," the Kadima source said.
Difficult to argue with this one, too... Still, as far as crow eating is concerned, Bibi, as usual, never misses an opportunity to catch a major one for his breakfast. Now he has a new one to munch on.

The story started way back, with the real grass root movement of reservist soldiers demanding Olmert's resignation in the aftermath of the second Lebanon war:
Most reservsists went straight home. But some marched to the prime minister's office, along with other troops from their regiment. They held up signs reading, "Olmert, Peretz, Halutz -- take responsibility."
As usual in our event-ridden life here, the movement lost its steam with time. Now, however, with less than a month before the final conclusions of the Winograd investigative committee on the war are planned to be published, a new "grass root" movement sprung to life. Tomer Buhadana, a famous IDF reservist major who hand-signed a V for victory from his stretcher after being wounded, became the leader of the new movement that is calling for Olmert's resignation.

And who happens to be the sponsor of this worthy enterprise? Yes, your guess us right - the same sweaty and impatient pretender to the PM's office, our incomparable Bibi.

And as usual, in his haste he forgot to wipe off his fingerprints, leading all the media to an easy scoop. And quite a lot of free laughs.

Yes, there is a consensus in the public opinion - Olmert has to go. But for our own sake - let's look again for a worthy replacement.

Timeo Danaos et dona ferentes

That Latin stuff (that could be loosely translated as "fear the gift-bearing Greeks") does not have anything to do with the Greeks in this case. Neither does the phrase "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth" have much to do with horses in this story, but these two are fairly tearing me apart at the moment.

On one hand, we have the friendly folks from the British Council who want to celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of the State of Israel. Which could be considered as a gift, surely. On the other hand, to celebrate this event, they choose no one else but Judy Price, a British filmmaker who is characterized by some as "a radical left-wing member of the London-based Jews for Justice for Palestinians", which is a delicate way to say "a fringe member of a fringe group of nutcases".

And probably, not being fringe enough to her taste, Ms Price tried to recruit a certain professor Haim Bresheeth - a most rabid and open Israel-hater. He, at least, had the grace to refuse the mission.

So, while we here will celebrate the sixty years jubilee, Judy Price will do her best to transform it into a mourning for the "Naqba", according to David T quoting from her e-mail:

The British Council is trying to operate with integrity, not to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Israel but to mark it in a critical way along with the Naqba.
Says it all, doesn't it? With friends like these...

On the other hand, why worry? We shall celebrate and they shall mourn. Who gets a better deal?

Man kills, cooks and possibly eats girlfriend, police say

That hesitant "possibly" comes from police via CNN.

Christopher Lee McCuin, 25, called 911 on Saturday and told an emergency dispatcher he had killed Jana Shearer, 21, and was boiling her body parts at his mother's home, said Smith County Sheriff J.B. Smith.
Me, I am skeptic about his motives for the call. More likely mom told him she is out of condiments.

In general, I am willing to bet that he will be married in a jiffy, while still in jail - eligible men who are willing to cook have always been in short supply.

When will Amy Winehouse Die?

That's not a question you would expect to be aired in normal circumstances. However, after reading the excerpt from the site dedicated to this same question, I am hesitant.

We’ll all have a date with our maker someday, but Amy Winehouse just can’t seem to wait. She can write and sing a beautiful tune, but for some reason Amy has landed in a self-destruction derby. It is even rumoured that Amy and Pete are keeping the Colombian economy going. She simply looks like a cat’s asshole before it’s been dewormed.
Then take a look at her picture:

Yeah, I guess that white substance in her nostrils is not sugar powder, nor toothpaste...
Amy is on her way out and as the world is profiting from this decline we thought it only fair that you should profit from it too. Guess her final breath and be crowned Mr. Or Mrs. Death. Winner will be rewarded with a iPod Touch.
Sounds ghoulish, I would say. So I shall skip it.

Er... besides, I am not into iPods.

Sunday links

Haveil Havalim #148 is up (It is called Impediment to spee.. no, to Peace, guess why...).

The end of the global warming

I think our future never looked brighter than today, after this amazing discovery.

If a person replaces most of the water in his body with Koranic water, his body begins to emit steam which contains the Koran. This creates a halo of steam around him, containing the Koran, which fends off Satan.
This is not a joking matter. It could be a beginning of a new oil-less millennium. Think about all the benefits, including the clean environment (pure water vapors) of using a pious Muslim as a source of free steam.

Everyone who thought that steam engines are relics of the bygone era must rethink his/her position on the issue.

And fending off Satan (esp. in the form of highway patrol and speed traps) is a bonus, of course.

The stories women tell their men...

This time it is straight from an old and beautiful fairy tale:

An Australian woman claims the nose stud she lost in the sea later turned up inside a fish caught by her fiance.
The part where the piece of jewelry was found is obviously true, since it is The Man himself who caught the fish.
Mr Triffett and his friend Tim Hall were fishing in roughly the same area where the stud was lost. When filleting one flathead they found a tiny nail-like object inside.
Since something still smells fishy, it is most probably the circumstances of the loss:
Kristy Brittain says she lost the stud in a fall while kneeboarding behind a speedboat off Tasmania, reports the Hobart Mercury.
Dunno... you decide...
