From Lenta.ru:
Estonian armed forces borrowed from Latvia a T-55 tank. The tank is needed for planned military maneuvers. Estonian army doesn't have tanks of it's own.
In 2007 (after Estonia became a member of NATO), representative of purchasing dept. of Estonian defense ministry, Margus Padjus, commenting on a proposal to purchase some tanks, stated that his department considers this impractical. Now tell me Estonia is not the place to be...

They will discover the truth of tanks. That they don't work well, one at a time, or even in pairs. Much too vulnerable without half a dozen to cover each other. And what to do when the RPG blows off a tread? Get out and walk.
I, too, vastly prefer to be outside of any mechanized contraption. But I'm not sure this is the line of reasoning that Ests pursue :)
Am glad to see that they have made a beginning, though no doubt Estonia will need more tanks. A good anti-tank defensive system would be good as well in case Czar Vladimir I decides to retake the Baltic countries. Estonia's military and its location at the Russian border, reminds me of the proposal made in the 1970s by some Danes to abolish their country's military and replace with an extensive system of megaphones at Denmark's border that would broadcast:
"We surrender" in Russian!
While Estonia is borrowing a tank from Latvia, their Ambassador to Lithuania is presenting his credentials See http://www.vm.ee/?q=en/node/5210

Thanks, David, it's good. And the discussion with that "You Racists" guy only adds color ;)
