Hm... Israeli European bee-eater sounds confusing. But a quote from here may set us straight:

To my shame I don't have my own picture of this one... anyway, Turkish authorities may examine till second coming: the sensitive equipment self-destroyed with the last heartbeat. Examination notwithstanding, our birds spied, spy and will continue to spy. You can take it to the bank (what your bank will do with it is another question).
And whoever is unhappy with this state of affairs should better brace him/herself: worse things are coming. Or, rather, flying:

Dammit Snoopy are you and the Elders plotting to subvert Turkey by getting the birds to eat all Turkey's honey bees? For shame!
On the other hand I suppose there is room for only one land of milk AND honey....
Actually honey bees provide handy fuel supply to the spies in the field. The bird are destined for bigger prey.
Those Turks. Nothing gets past them. Is why they are world leaders in everything. Well, in goat herding, maybe.
Actually they also produce Toyotas. The Corollas sold in Israel come from Turkey.
I preferred the migrating crane story of last year, reported in the UK via Harry's Place (no link, sorry). In that one it was the Saudis who were convinced the bird was a Mossad spy. Problem for them was that they were so concerned about the crane, they missed the vultures and eagles.
Now they have no secrets from the `israelis.
