iPhone 5 preorder?

Why?

Why? Because the electronic gadget industry feeds on anticipation.

Products are announced months in advance of unspecified retail launches, either by press release or rumour and fanboy websites, and the information channels are tightly controlled by the corporate world in order to suppress negative consumer sentiment. If that is kept to the indpendent blogs, it may be safely ignored.

Preordering is essential for the smaller e-commerce retailers, if they are to compete in this metaphorical hyper-market with the big boys and their vast PR and marketing resources.

The point of my question is that in this case the iThing isn't even announced and no groupy, even the most incisive, knows yet what it is Apple is selling. So what it is they preorder?

I know, I know...

I usually page once each two or three days through the two sites I use for info on new PDAs, patiently waiting for one my heart will tell me to buy. Well, I confess to being a junky. And I can tell you that so far no one knows really the specs of the iThing. People are so addicted to Apple that they are queueing to buy a total unknown. Amazing.
