Orange gators in Florida? What next?

Word of an orange alligator in south Sarasota County spread all the way to New York on Thursday, after Sylvia Mythen shared photos of the animal with a local television station.
The whole article is written in a dismissive light-hearted manner, hinting at some high school prank. I cannot adopt this easy attitude. I suspect this alligator is gold-plated and as such a part of some sinister conspiracy by Shalom Bernanke and the Feds in general. While the color betrays the low quality of the gold, it could be just a trial run.

Keep watching for other strangely colored critters, I suggest.
