Not that there is any reason to post this, if echoing a post by Francis isn't a reason enough. Somehow the cormorants fascinate me. Their pitiless emerald eyes and that mean attitude (ain't it stupid to ascribe our traits to animals?) are so reminiscent of reptiles, that ... what the heck, here are the pictures:

Rarely have I seen a cormorant in flight. Mostly they hunker on their haunches, staring out across the water and looking vaguely menacing.
They are not very good fliers, I mean where the noise and frequency of wing flaps are concerned. But as far as diving is considered, they are very cool.

Notice how their wing feathers are spread out? Sea gulls (we are at the beach this week) spread their tail feathers on takeoff and landing. Keep them tucked together the rest of the time.
