No plague of locusts for the Children of Israel, almost

Once again, its the Egyptians who suffer, and the Children of Israel who get off lightly, sort of. That plague of locusts in Egypt, reported by among others the elder of ziyon blog, reached Israel Wednesday morning. However, aggressive spraying. both on the ground and from the air, ensured that while crop damage did result, the swarm will swarm no more, mostly. Survivors ware likely to be turned back from the north by a cold front to an area already covered in pesticide and stripped of food.

So they're doomed doubly as well.

However, the same article notes that "The locusts also caused damages to fields cultivated by Palestinian farmers in the Gaza Strip, and the Hamas government instructed residents on Wednesday to close their windows. The Islamist group ruling the coastal Palestinian territory was quoted by the Chinese Xinhua news agency saying the swarms of locusts were neither big nor harmful."

Indeed, the "...director general of plant protection department in the Ministry of Agriculture, said in a press statement that the plague “represents no kind of danger or harm to people and plants,” and that “the situation is under full control and protection of the Ministry of Agriculture.”

Whistling in the wind is the phrase that comes to mind (among the polite ones, that is), especially without the agricultural equipment the Israelis have to hand. But then, Hamas is, presumably, taking the Palestine Solidarity Campaign's call to boycott all things Israeli seriously.

See what happens when you boycott Israel? Bad things happen to you. And without either the Israelis or their Zionist supporters having to lift a finger. Told you God was on our side!

More likely this is a case of HAMAS requiring a bit of time in order to figure out how to spin the crop damage/losses to its advantage. I'm sure we'll be hearing the usual "starving Palestinians suffering due to Israel's (weapons) blockade" schtick shortly.

Well, locusts, you know, are a widely recognized bio-weapon of Elders, used since times immemorial...

Or actually memorial, it's just a figger of speech.

In light of Pesach being barely two weeks away, "immemorial" works just fine, Snoop.

They are probably intrigued by the idea of locust-propelled Qassam rockets.

That true, too.

That will be grossly environmentally incorrect, I am afraid. PETA will have to create a memorial to abused locusts.

The time of year had occurred to me too, which was why I posted it. It's going to give a whole new frisson at the Seder Table when the 10 plagues section of the Haggadah comes round.

That for sure. And some fried locusts too, at least in the parts of the tribe that consider it a kosher delicacy.
