Exactly, but I couldn't change the original text ;-)
The first flag of Canada was the British red ensign and it was that way until relatively recently (the sixties) there was a great deal of competition for changing the flag....one of the original suggestions was to put a beaver in the middle of it....but it was thought that no one would take a country serious with a muff in the middle of it's flag - so it was decided to cover the beaver with a leaf.
