This article shows that at least in the domain of energy supply the tables have turned:
The operator of a natural gas field off Israel's coast says it has signed a letter of intent to provide gas to a facility in Egypt. The article mentions quite dryly the story of Al Qaeda - related gangs in Sinai blowing up the gas pipe from Egypt to Israel every other week:
Until recently, Egypt provided natural gas to Israel. But following the ouster of longtime President Hosni Mubarak in 2011, supplies were disrupted and eventually halted. We all here, though, remember the hikes in the electricity price that accompanied the travails of that gas pipe...
No more.

Now Israel will have to become a much larger regional sea power.
They are adding a few light patrol ships, and these subs from Germany keep coming... one every two years or so. Oh well...
Good 'ol irony, history's friend.
Log? Logs? If they'd been hefting computer servers, the SU might still be around.
Obviously not. Couldn't be. No how.
Looks and brains, ne'er the twain shall meet. In most Hollyweird cases, anyhow.
Yep, this is a good example of one.
Deity forbid. But it could be back soon, as a Russian Empire, complete with a tzar...
No way, true.
Oh yeah, ain't it a shame? Nah, not really.
Going to have to. The gas field is both blessing and curse. It'll eventually be threatened (by who knows) to put pressure on Israel.
I guess you are right at that. The navy, however, wasn't a priority for Israel until now. Hope it will change, with some revenue from the gas fields coming in.
Apparently you guys have something of a head start.

Mars! Diabolical sir, diabolical!
And this is for starters only ;-)
And while I don't normally trust the Daily Beast (the old Democrat Newsweak in Web disguise), in this case I'll make an exception:

Ah, good old P.J. Yes, it's a good exception. And I hope he is right, Unfortunately, the way of screwing things up he predicts takes some time I am not sure I have. Otherwise, he is right.
