Donetsk and Luhansk vote in 'self-rule' referendum or referendum the Russian way

BBC correspondents at a number of polling stations have reported chaotic scenes - no voting booths and no electoral register.

Sarah Rainsford in Donetsk says she has not seen a single ballot in the clear ballot boxes marked 'no'.

And here is a local eyewitness' report:

Referendum in Luhansk: you fill in the form, approach the ballot box - there stands a man. He takes the form, looks [at it]. If the vote is "yes", [the man] puts it into the ballot box. If not, crumples and throws it away, tells you to go and to think. The man is unarmed, but the perimeter is surrounded by gunmen. Told by parents of a recruited citizen of Luhansk that visited him.
