To say or assert something so patently stupid and preposterous as to generate widespread mockery. Named in honor of State Department Spokesperson Marie Harf.So, if your wife (or husband or, to be politically correct, any other kind of partner) asks you that question after a long and tiring day - take it easy, it is not like "barfing".
The State Department Spokesperson was harfing on about how Islamic State jihadists only needed job opportunities in order to give up their evil ways.
Well, but pretty close, come to think of it.
P.S. Still, let's not forget that Ms Harf is not, strictly speaking, an owner of her tongue. Someone else, much higher up, should have at least a share of the glory.

To harf is to barf. OTOH, with the fashionable glasses and long, long locks, she's pretty obviously going for a job in TV news. We'll know it when she gets there. CNN or MSNBC wouldn't find her all thathard to fit into the lineup.
Well, after all the derision and humiliation she suffered at the hands of her boss, she deserves a job like this. Poor gal.

I don't know why you feel sorry for drones like her. She's told to lie, paid to lie, and she lies. If they didn't pay her she wouldn't do it.
Still, let's consider that she receives a good measure of contempt that by rights should be addressed at her bosses that tell her to lie.
