Now that I at least have the chance to read him regularly (sometimes I do, most times I don't after seeing the headline), I see his problem.
If you search this blog for "Gideon Levy", you shall find several cases of outright lies and/or use of unresearched info that will cause any journalist dismissal - but not in Haaretz, where this character is a senior editor.
Leftist publications can be pretty shameless sometimes, since they basically only listen to those who agree with them and condemn their critics as fascists.
Well, I can't say that this is typical for lefties only, but it is definitely true for the kind of lefties Gideon Levy represents.
I see that 5775 is a palindromic year. You're the math guy, how often does that happen?
I shall check with real experts.

Surely that is not the fundamental problem. The problem is that they lie. I assume you are familiar with BBC Watch, which exposes the BBC's filthy Jew-hating lies every day. Ha'aretz, which used to be a serious paper, has for years been as much like the Stuermer as Levy's two dove-like breasts are like each other.
BBC Watch does a sterling job indeed, like its (older) brother/sister CiF Watch, dealing with The Guardian. Unfortunately, the captive readers of both above mentioned do not read the Watch blogs.
In defense of Haaretz, not that I tend to defend it, it must be said that sometimes they produce some quality journalism. The problem is indeed that the quality stuff is mixed with garbage too liberally.
