You all know where that headline comes from, even if you are of that age where, when singing it for the first time, your brain was so addled by chemical or natural additives that memories of everything else left you there and then.
So imagine me (on the small side, portly, balding, reading glasses, scraggly beard etc) reading a Torygraph article Alex Salmond tells Queen his vision for break-up of Britain and sarcastically smiling all the way through it. Definitely, you will say, here is a man in the midst of a strong attack of Schadenfreude. And you will be right, too.
For about five or six reasons:
- United Kingdom in general has a very strong supporters base for one-state solution of Israeli-Palestine crisis. According to these supporters, the said solution should serve the world as an example of enlightened elimination of nation-states, borders, nationalism, you name it.
- Scotland, in particular, sports a most ferocious organization called Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign. Of course, they are ardent supporters of the above mentioned one-state solution, although when they say "one state" they may mean something completely different from what you and I may imagine...

I believe there is a Freudian term for it: displacement.
"an unconscious defense mechanism whereby the mind redirects affects from an object felt to be dangerous or unacceptable to an object felt to be safe or acceptable.<span>"[</span>
This process is active in the formation of hysterical or obsessional symptoms.
What would Scotland do without England? Other than fall apart, I mean, into tribal fiefdoms? I have trouble imagining, also, that most Scots are so stupid as to back the PLO, let alone Hamas. They just have the usual supply of nitwit Leftists, is all.
As for Mr. Goon. Don't let him fool you, folks. He's actually of slightly taller than average height, and still in fighting trim, with a neatly-razored beard and sophisticated-looking receding hairline. Also the reading glasses make infrequent appearances and then only as Bondish-appearing sunglasses. (Probably a Mossad agent with a sense of humor, i.e. a "software developer" which also explains the Elders motif.)
No, I never said that most Scots do support that organization I mentioned, just that it seems to be well backed and strong in Scotland.
And thanks for the compliments. On the other hand, my obscurity as Elders' agent might be harmed now ;)
Ach, Noga, many thanks. I knew a kind soul will come through with scientific explanation ;)
It's an amusing comparison but I thunk the SNP is pretty much at its zenith. A full term with a majority in the Scottish Parliament should kill off a lot of fervour within the electorate!
Knowing little about Scotland internal politics, I will take what you say as gospel.
