And there is nothing unrespectable about UPS law school. In an earlier generation, the equivalent might have been a degree from City College of New York, an institution that played a major role in the upward mobility of American Jews. <br /><br />In the US, the graduates of the most prestigious institutions of higher education have never dominated the professions, business, and government as they do in many other countries (France being one of the most extreme examples). This is the deliberate result of a public policy of providing broad access to higher education, beginning with the establishment of state (as in the individual states) universities, then the (state) land-grant universities (originally referred to disparagingly as "cow colleges"), then the creation of community colleges, then the GI Bill.
